Competition results are only one part of archery. A big part of my journey is what happens between competitions — the practice, the coaching, the mistakes and those little moments when something finally starts to make sense!
I'm lucky to have regular coaching through the Archery GB Performance Pathway, as well as taking part in the National Talent Development Programme (NTDP). I also practise at my club, where I can work on what I've learned and, hopefully, get plenty of arrows down the range.
Some sessions focus on technique, others on physical preparation, mindset or learning how to perform under pressure. It all helps me become a better archer, one arrow at a time.
Training
One of my biggest technical focuses at the moment is my bow arm.
I'm working on keeping good posture and a strong bow-arm position without letting my elbow hyperextend. I'm also trying to make sure the arm stays strong through the shot rather than collapsing.
It's something I'm working on regularly with my coaches, using mirrors, stretch bands, blank boss shooting and normal shooting at different distances.
The aim isn't just to be able to do it when I'm thinking really hard about it. The aim is for the correct movement to eventually become automatic.
Behind the Shot: The Bow Arm Project 💪

Mirrors & stretch band → Blank boss → Different distances → Automatic shot
Making it automatic 🎯
Focus
Bow-arm position, release and keeping my bow arm strong through the shot without letting my elbow hyperextend or my arm collapse.
What I’m learning 💡
The hard part isn't getting my bow arm right for one shot. It's getting it right often enough that eventually I don't have to think about it.
Next step ➜
Keep working on the same movement, particularly making sure my bow arm stays strong through the shot and doesn't collapse.

How I Train
Club Practice
This is where I get to shoot lots of arrows, practise what I've learned and enjoy being part of my club. Sometimes it's about scores, but often it's simply about improving one little thing at a time.
Regular Coaching
My coaching sessions help me work on the technical details of my shooting, from posture and alignment to my release and follow-through. Sometimes the smallest adjustments make the biggest difference.
Archery GB NTDP
The National Talent Development Programme gives me opportunities to learn about more than just shooting. Alongside technique, there's physical preparation, mindset, goal-setting and learning how to develop as an athlete.
